Finding Grace in Community

February 5, 2025

Dear Bridge of Hope Friends,
As the new Executive Director of Bridge of Hope Harrisonburg-Rockingham, I am thrilled to join this incredible community of supporters, volunteers, and neighbors working together to end family homelessness. I officially began my role in December, and each day I am inspired by the love and dedication this community brings to our mission.
One of the first experiences that stood out to me was our Board Retreat this January. Together, we read Grace Can Lead Us Home by Kevin Nye, a powerful book that dives deeply into the intersection of faith and homelessness. Nye challenges us to see homelessness not just as an issue to solve but as an opportunity to extend grace, compassion, and dignity to those who are often overlooked.
A core tenet of the book is that grace invites us to participate in creating a community where everyone has a place to belong—a home. This deeply resonates with the mission of Bridge of Hope, where we practice a “Housing First” approach. By providing safe, stable housing, we create a foundation upon which families can rebuild their lives, pursue goals, and thrive.
As I look ahead, I am both hopeful and deeply aware of the challenges facing our neighbors. While Bridge of Hope does not receive direct federal funding, many of our partner organizations do, and many of the families we serve rely on federal programs for housing, food, and healthcare. Uncertainty at the national level—whether through funding instability, shifting policies, or the threat of ICE raids in our communities—creates an ever-present strain on the very families we walk alongside. Now more than ever, our work requires not only compassion but also courage. We must remain steadfast in ensuring that every family has the stability and security they need to thrive.
Each of us has a role to play. Whether it’s volunteering, partnering as a rental property owner, or advocating for systemic changes, there is a place for everyone in this mission.
I invite you to take a step forward:
  • Engage with us on social media. Follow, like, and share our posts to help spread awareness about family homelessness and our mission.
  • Make a financial gift. Your support has a direct impact on the liv es of your neighbors, providing them with a solid foundation and the tools to build brighter futures.
Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community where every family has the opportunity to flourish. If you’d like to learn more about getting involved – or just want to grab a coffee – please reach out to me directly at ED@hr.bridgeofhopeinc.org.
Thank you for being a part of this journey. Let’s continue to extend grace and hope to our neighbors, one family at a time.
Many thanks,

Heidi Hoover, J.D.
