You Give Them Something To Eat

February 22, 2023

I give thanks for the amazing growth that is happening at Bridge of Hope Harrisonburg-Rockingham! This growth directly correlates with an increase in the number of families we can serve. The need is great, and this is indeed an answer to prayer. Thanks be to God!
But with this growth and capacity comes the need for more and more Neighboring Volunteer groups ready to walk alongside a family with presence, love and support.
As I’ve been present with this need, working to engage more local Christian faith communities, I keep picturing Jesus on the hillside with the multitude. His disciples declare the need and their solution – “The people are hungry, so send them on their way.” But Jesus says, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
The first point Jesus makes is that we need to be present with the need. Are our eyes and hearts and hands open?
The second point is that we can do something about it. None of us will have everything, but each of us has a little. The more we step forward to offer what we have, the more we will experience Jesus’ blessing, multiplying our efforts and creating something far more abundant than we could anticipate.
And so we turn to the body of Christ and ask,
Are you willing to be present?
Are you ready to offer your heart?
Are you open to receive Jesus’ blessing?

Today, I invite you to share this email with someone you know who might be ready to engage the invitation to be a Neighboring Volunteer.
Check out this one-minute video that articulates the power of this work. We look forward to hearing from you!
